ONGC Uran plant fire: CNG supply to Mumbai CNG hit

Both PNG and CNG's gas supply exploded in Mumbai today after a major fire broke out at a processing plant of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai township. Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), which supplies domestic, industrial and automotive gas, said the gas supply at its City Gate station, Wadala, was severely affected due to the accident.

Mumbai city gas distributor MGL said in a tweet that "due to the fire at ONGC's gas processing facility at Uran this morning, gas supply at MGL's City Gate station in Wadala has been badly affected".

MGL said it has to ensure that supply to its domestic PNG consumers remains on priority without any hindrance.

MGL said in a tweet that many CNG stations in Mumbai cannot operate due to low pressure in the pipeline. The company has advised industrial and commercial customers in the city to switch to alternative fuels.

Gas supply in MGL's network, the city's gas distributor said, will be normalized once natural gas supply from ONGC is restored.

Later in the evening, MGL said that the gas supply to MGL's City Gate station in Wadala has been partially restored and the supply of gas to various CNG stations in Mumbai and to industrial and commercial customers on MGL's network is progressively normal. Is happening

At least four people were killed and some others injured in a fire in a thunderstorm drainage network at ONGC's oil and gas processing plant in Uran, Navi Mumbai.

ONGC said the blast was called off by the fire brigade within two hours and there was no impact on the oil processing, while the gas was taken to the Hazira plant in Surat district of Gujarat.

MGL supplies gas to 1.2 million homes, 4,000 small commercial establishments, 74 industrial estates and 0.7 million vehicles in and around Mumbai.

On the NSE, MGL shares were trading at ₹ 825.50, down ₹ 19.75 or 2.34% in the afternoon.
