SpiceJet Clocks Highest Passenger Growth In More Than Three Years, The number of passengers flying in SpiceJet Ltd grew at the fastest pace in more than three years as the capacity of the nation's second largest airline in June.

Based on the data of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, according to the calculation of Bloombergquin, the year-on-year increase in air travel by the Ajay Singh-led airline increased by almost 37 percent, which was the highest in 38 months. SpiceJet reported a faster passenger growth than Indigo, India's largest carrier for the second straight month.

Air traffic for all Indian carriers has increased by 6 percent compared to last year - the highest in five months - even the weather's strong holiday season ended. In June, around 12 million passengers were taken to the sky.

GoAir's passenger growth is up 26 percent.
Extender's passenger growth was 43 percent - the highest in 14 months. AirAsia's passenger growth stood at 28.5 percent - the highest in three months. Air India's passenger growth was 10 percent - the highest in 10 months.

Passenger Load Factor - One measure of percentage or capacity utilization of loaded seats - All major airlines improved as compared to last year as more Indians took flight.

However, the increase in the number of vacant seats for the ninth straight month extended by the Tata Group was noticed. SpiceJet reported the increase in its seat occupancy for the first time in 13 months. It has been reporting over 90 percent of the load factor for almost four years. While operated by Interglobe Aviation Limited Indigo had reported the increase in its load factor for the first time in 11 months, GoAir, controlled by Wadia Group, had reported the maximum seat occupation in at least five years.

The passenger load factor of Indigo increased by 180 basis points, which was 90.1 percent.
SpiceJet's passenger load factor increased 40 basis points to 93.7 percent. AirAsia's passenger load factor increased 400 basis points to 90.7 percent. The passenger load factor of the extension moved up 240 basis points to 83.3 percent. GoAir's passenger load factor increased by 540 basis points to 94 percent.
Air India's passenger load factor increased by 30 basis points to 81.2 percent.

SpiceJet's market share increased to 15.6 percent in June - the highest in almost five years. However, Indigo's share fell to 48 percent from its peak of 50 percent of a few months ago. Air India's market share slipped below 13 percent, while AirAsia and Expander rose rose to 12 percent.
